PLAYWRIGHT SEEKS THE SPIRIT OF SAMLESBURY HALL

The writer of a brand-new ‘ghost play’ will spend the night seeking the spirit of Samlesbury Hall’s famous ‘White Lady’ in preparation for Christmas promenade theatre production ‘The Lady in White’.

Lancashire’s most haunted hall is set to become the backdrop for ‘A Ghost’s Story for Christmas’ when a new spine-tingling seasonal production called ‘The Lady in White’ opens at Samlesbury Hall, near Preston, on selected nights in December 2021.

In preparation for the play, Playwright Jason Karl will spend the night inside the hall on Wednesday 24th November in an attempt to meet the spirit of the buildings most famous ghost – Lady Dorothea Southworth and will be broadcasting live throughout the evening on Samlesbury Hall’s Facebook page.

Lauren Machin, Deputy Director of Samlesbury Hall said “this is the first time that our famous phantom has been the subject of a theatrical production, and we are looking forward to bringing Lady Dorothea back to life in this unique promenade play”.

The 40-minute production is designed for families and lovers of ghost stories and is set to become an annual offering at the Hall. The audience will travel back in time as a tragic love story comes vividly to life in four dimensions and will be guided through the rooms of the hall as they watch each scene in the story unfold.

Jason Karl, from AtmosFEAR! Scare Entertainment, who are producing the play said “staying overnight in the Hall will allow me to immerse myself if the history of the house and will inspire the writing of the play.  Although the story is well-known, we are going to mix in a dose of artistic license and set it at Christmas time for a suitably seasonal chill…”.

The Lady in White combines live actors and theatrical storytelling to present a seasonal Christmas play which invites the audience to ‘step into the story’.  Performances last approximately 40 minutes and begin at 6pm, 7pm, 8pm, 9pm and 10pm on December 13th, 14th, 16th, 19th, 20th and 23rd 2021.  Tickets are £15 (+ booking fee) per person and must be booked in advance at https://www.skiddle.com/whats-on/Preston/Samlesbury-Hall/

You can watch Jason Karl’s live internet broadcasts from the hall on Wednesday 24th November 2021 on Samlesbury Hall’s official Facebook page at 10pm, 11pm and midnight.
