SAMLESBURY HALL BRINGS A SEASONAL SPINE-TINGLE WITH ‘CHARLES DICKENS’ A CHRISTMAS CAROL’

Following the sell-out success of Samlesbury Hall’s ‘A Ghost Story for Christmas’ promenade theatre production in 2021, the hall presents ‘Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol’ for 2022…

Lancashire’s most haunted hall will once again become the backdrop for A Ghost Story for Christmas when a new spine-tingling seasonal adaptation of Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol opens at Samlesbury Hall, near Preston, on selected nights in December 2022.

Lauren Machin, Deputy Director of Samlesbury Hall said “after the success of our first A Ghost Story for Christmas production in 2021, we are excited to present this Christmas classic in a brand-new way, inviting the audience to step into the story, as the theatre unfolds around them.  It is particularly apt that we are presenting Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol, as the famous writer is said to have once stayed at the hall!”

The 40-minute production is designed for families and lovers of ghost stories and is now an annual offering at the Hall. The audience will travel back in time as the ghostly Christmas tale comes vividly to life in four dimensions and will be guided through the rooms of the hall as they watch each scene in the story unfold.

Jason Karl, from AtmosFEAR! Scare Entertainment, who are producing the play said “this classic story lends itself to the historical setting of Samlesbury Hall, and we are looking forward to bringing each of the ghosts to life using Victorian theatrical techniques to create an uplifting and suitably seasonal chill…”.

A GHOST’S STORY FOR CHRISTMAS…

Our brand new ‘A ghost’s story for Christmas’ promenade theatre play at Samlesbury Hall in Lancashire opens on Tuesday 14th December!

PLAYWRIGHT SEEKS THE SPIRIT OF SAMLESBURY HALL

The writer of a brand-new ‘ghost play’ will spend the night seeking the spirit of Samlesbury Hall’s famous ‘White Lady’ in preparation for Christmas promenade theatre production ‘The Lady in White’.

Lancashire’s most haunted hall is set to become the backdrop for ‘A Ghost’s Story for Christmas’ when a new spine-tingling seasonal production called ‘The Lady in White’ opens at Samlesbury Hall, near Preston, on selected nights in December 2021.

In preparation for the play, Playwright Jason Karl will spend the night inside the hall on Wednesday 24th November in an attempt to meet the spirit of the buildings most famous ghost – Lady Dorothea Southworth and will be broadcasting live throughout the evening on Samlesbury Hall’s Facebook page.

THE 13TH FRAME…

Famed Spirit Photographer Sir William Doyle opens the doors to an exclusive exhibition as he presents his collection of 12 ‘ghost photographs’ to the public for the very first time.  But his Spectrocamera has had a serious malfunction, and the ghosts he has captured on film are now roaming the castle halls.  Journey through the castle and come face-to-face with the phantoms and witness Sir Doyle’s assistant attempting to capture the ghost of Hever Castle on film in The 13th Frame…

  • The 13th Frame… is a 15-minute walk-through scare attraction experience set in the staterooms of the castle. It includes live scareactors, theatrical storytelling and sudden scares.  It is designed for brave families!  Age guidance 12+.

SUBSTRATUM

It is the year 1940, and the bombs of the blitz are headed for Hever…  Descend into the cellars below the castle and take refuge from the airborne attack; but be warned – a far more terrifying encounter awaits you in a hidden labyrinth where the depraved Doctor Lockwood is conducting bizarre medical experiments inside SUBstratum.

  • SUBstratum is a 15-minute walk-through scare attraction experience set in the cellars of the castle. It includes live scareactors, startle effects and short-term sensory deprivation.  It is designed for thrill-seekers.  Age guidance 14+.
